If you have Netflix, you need to find the episode of David Letterman's show, My Next Guest, with Jay-Z. If you don't have Netflix, ask a friend to sign into their account. It's worth every minute of your time.
I love this episode for many reasons. Firstly, I love creative people, projects, and places. So naturally, Jay-Z would fall into this category. I'm fascinated by how other creatives view the world, what their process is, and how - through repetition - they master their craft (Sound familiar to yoga?). But between Jay-Z's calm temperament and thoughtful articulation about human dynamics and personal growth, this is hands down one of the best conversations I've listened to in awhile.
In it Jay-Z speaks of tangible life examples of larger ideals around compassion, forgiveness, acceptance, and gratitude. They discuss what being "in the flow" means (around 31:00) and how when you find something you love you can "catch a pocket" that, over time, becomes longer and more easily recognizable. This is called your rhythm; something my students know I reference all the time in class.
These two opposite people even talk about what it means to have both a personal and collective emotional IQ and the role of fear in preventing us from having an emotional transcendence towards love.
...I'm telling you... watch this and really listen. It's beautiful.
